“View Model” shows the list of questions that are used to measure concepts and/or facets.
In the table you see a column named “Dependent”. The questions can only be labeled “Y” for Yes or “N” for No. Questions labeled “yes” are the dependent variables/indicators; they are core indicators of the research project; to be explained by other variables. Questions labeled “No” are split variables, which means they are used to ‘explain’ dependent variables.
An example:
A course satisfaction study (see “DEMO” dataset) is set up by a university to find out what students think about the quality of the education the school offers.
Firstly questions are asked on a lot of aspects of the curriculum, which is the main part of the survey. (e.g. “I was well informed about the rating criteria”) These responses are called the indicator variables.
When the respondent is done answering those questions he/she is asked to rate some bigger parts of the entire curriculum with a certain score on the same scale as the previous questions. (e.g. “Your general rating compared to other courses”) These are the “ultimate to be explained” variables: once we understand how higher/lower scores are related to other key variables, we can take actions to improve the satisfaction.
At the same time the surveyor can perform an analysis to find out the relationship between the perception concepts and the split variables.
